De Silvestro Qualifies 23 for Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio

Lexington, OH (Saturday, August 04, 2012) - Lotus HVM Racing driver Simona De Silvestro was in the first qualifying group today at the Honda Indy 200. De Silvestro had a one-day test at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course just prior to the Toronto race. The team had hoped the data gathered at the test would help with this weekend's performance. While the track conditions were vastly different, the team still had a good jump on their setup for the weekend. Unfortunately, the straightaway speed differential couldn't be overcome for today's qualifying.
"Qualifying was the same as how it's been going, which is not good because we're always starting in the back," De Silvestro said. "But, I think we have a strong race car. We worked really hard to make that happen. We'll see what happens tomorrow in the race. It's disappointing because everybody is working so hard and we can't really do anything right now."
Team sponsor AREVA and their guests were on hand to lend support for the #78 Nuclear Clean Air Energy car. Guests met Simona after qualifying and offered their encouragement.
Team owner Keith Wiggins looked at the positive side of the day. "We were fastest through one sector and top five in two others of the track," he said, "so we'll take that as a positive and focus on the race. We have to take what we've got and do the best we can with it."
Technical director Tom Brown focuses as well on what the team has managed to accomplish. "Once again we maximized what was within our control," he said. "The car is good, we gapped well and Sim made the best of what she had. It's tough given the situation we are in but we always work to get the best out of everything. Tomorrow the forecast calls for a chance of rain. Let's hope it happens."
Regardless of the weather, the Lotus HVM Racing team will do their best with any opportunities given them. The team intends to use strategy and De Silvestro's aggressive driving style to move up through the field for a strong finish.
Be sure to tune in for tomorrow's Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio at 1:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
